..but going with the family on a holiday journey first the bike will have to wait.
Have made one test ride though, along the twisty Rhine dikes. :D :D
After a crankshaft failure I swapped the "short engine" with the one that sat in my basement, changed all over, and the rear main seal,
AND also took the opportunity to change bearings in the tranny.
The tranny had started to howl, and made a powdery metallic debris in the oil. It was rather complicated
to get the tranny together again with the spacing involved, but
the howling is gone, and the shifting is not impaired by the operation.
I have already an oil pressure gauge derived from the oil filter cover, so I hope to prevent crank damage the next time!
(not yet attached)
So a question: How much pressure you guys (with a pressure meter) have left when bike is hot?
wiemer/ tomorrow on my way to Spain (with car)

Good deal Wiemer, hope you got your shimming spot-on and you shouldn't have any tranny problems. As far as pressure, from what I have read it's pretty high, compared to cars. Maybe over 70-80 psi (5-6 BAR) when up to sopeed? I would get a good mechanical oil pressure gauge and see. Screw in a "tee" fitting with the pressure switch on one leg and the gauge on the other.
