Title: Carb Slide Orientation

When trouble shooting the carb issues I had with the '82 LS, I was wondering if it made any difference of the orientation of the carb slide .

There is a port or passageway that goes to the upper chamber above the diaphragm .

Is it supposed to be facing the cylinder, or the air filter, I've always placed it toward the cylinder .

It definitely should go towards the cylinder.

Actually you could not change the orientation as the diaphragm is keying the piston. (there is only one position for the diaphragm on the cylinder and there is only one position of the diaphragm on the carburettor housing...) Which is a good thing as there is a slope at the front which is very useful for the performance of the engine...

This was more of when you replace the diaphragm, if you don't realize that the port is there, you can install it either way, but once installed, it only goes on one way due to the small tab molded into the edge of the diaphragm .
