Title: Rear suspension
Post by: Dizerens5 on February 17, 2013, 08:30:45 AM
I recently fitted out my 79 with the usual standard Krauser luggage kit, new from Motorworks. All went on easy but I'm a bit disappointed with this stuff, it does the job and looks good but is nowhere near as practical as the Italian made Givi kit I had on my last few bikes. One problem is that the frames limit movement of the adjustment lever to the center and full-forward positions -- and with cases in place, it's full-forward only. I'd like to try the softer position. Seems it's just a matter of removing the shocks and refitting with the lever facing inward (toward the wheel). Looks like it should fit ok and the lever should not foul anything on either side -- but is that right?

If the Boge shock absorber adjustment levers do not foul the wheel or tire, you should be fine. Confirm by checking for clear movement at full shock compression.

This Safety Note brought to you by the Darwin Awards selection committee:
Do Not attempt to adjust the shock absorber pre-load while motorcycle is in motion. :D

OK, that's a take-off on what's printed on the cardboard wrapper on the last fan belt I bought...

Do Not attempt to install belt while engine is running.

If my 79 is anything to go by and I believe it was 99.9% original when I got it then the adjustment levers are supposed to point inwards. Well slightly towards the rear on the softest setting rotating inwards on the 2nd setting and straight forward on the hardest. The lever won't  foul anything.

Yep. Seen that. [smiley=thumbdown.gif] Now let's get that fool to do the belt trick on my Northstar.

Ditto, Barry

Adjusters on my 82 go between facing back/inwards/forward... And it had the factory tires still installed when i bought it. There are no clearance issues

Constellation, seems like your shocks got installed on the wrong sides

Thanks all! Btw I've  heard that child's Batman costumes have been sold with the advisory "does not allow the wearer to fly". I'll remember that if I ever give one to my grandson and make sure he reads it carefully. (But I seem to recall that the original Batman of the tv series did not fly anyway.)
