Title: oil pressure sending unit

I noticed oil dripping from the oil pressure sending unit from where the wires come come out of the oil pressure sending unit. Anyone had this problem, solution?

Only solution is to replace the low oil pressure switch.

If you are in bad need of one then you can get one at an auto parts store for a mid 70s to mid 80s BMW car.  It actually cost a couple bucks more than Chicago BMW's price but the nice thing was a standard spark plug fits it.

One from an aircooled VW will work as well. Be aware that there are two different threads available on them depending on year (on both VWs and airhead BMWs) so the best bet is to take your old one with you down to the parts counter and be sure it matches.

Weird over here in the UK a VW pressure switch from Halfords or Part Co, is a couple of quid cheeper than the same part for an airhead from the Beemer dealers.

I had that problem too, with oil dripping from the oil pressure switch - well it was just weeping.  But, it's easy to get them and really easy to replace.  It only took a couple days to get it from the place I ordered it from too.  No more oil dripping (well, at least in that spot.   ::) )

That happened to me on the road once. About 100 miles away from home on my R90S,  looked down to see oil running all over my boot. I stopped at an auto parts store on US 23 outside of Pikeville, Ky. They had a box of loose oil sending units for "them foreign cars". Looked around in the box for a couple of minutes and found one. The parts guy said it was for a Volvo. Using my  BMW tool kit, I installed the new switch and was on my merry way. Sold that bike to a salesman at a big BMW store in California. Guess that switch is still in it. Man, I really liked that bike!!!! Dew.

That doesn't surprise me since Volvos also use Bosch electrics.  I would imagine that the same switch was used on a number or European makes.
