found this on ebay , wonder if any of you guys (or gals) can help me out? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-AIRHEAD-BOXER-1974-84-PIRANHA-ELECTRONIC-IGNITION-UNIT-/200848470122?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2ec380706a

Here's a link to the manufacturer's site .

What year bike do you have ?
-
its a 79

link took me back to thier ad on ebay!

I doubt it's suitable for the range of years specified in the ebay posting as the open points prior to 78 are quite different to the points in a can like your 79 and different again to the factory electronic ignition from 81 on. No system can cover all 3 ignition types unless it's crankshaft mounted which I doubt that is. Typical ebay seller who hasn't a clue.
Even the manufacturers site that Bob provided the link for has two different products for the 2 points systems pre and post 78.

question... why is someone selling a used (or almost used) electronic ignition? does it work? does it work intermittently? sounds like a gamble to me.. would rather buy one with a warranty if it were me
-
No, buy used. It is so fun to have a dead bike a hundred miles from nowhere and in the dark !
Ignition is something, with brakes, to take very seriously.

If you just want a simple points amplifier you can build one very cheaply from a kit. It's very easy to build. By far the hardest part is finding a suitable box to put it in. Mine has been faultless for over 3 years.
