Title: Oil in air box,

Started poking around and found alittle oil in  the air box, seems to be coming from the crankcase breather,  Normal ?   I dont know if it has excessive blowbye, or maybe it was  overfilled. I needed to remove all that stuff anyway to pull the trans back for a spline lube .

Oil in the air box, not to sound like a broken record, is pretty much normal for an airhead bike. Oil will also drip out of the carbs after along ride, so don't get upset if you see a drop or two under the carbs on occasion! I tried a method to reduce oil in the intake system,it's removing the breather housing, and putting a portion of a copper pot scrub pad in there. The oil that comes out of the breather is in an atomized state, and the copper pad gives it someplace to collect and return to the oil sump, instead of being blown into the intake system. Some owners claim that only filling the oil to the halfway point between add and full marks on the dip stick also reduces oil blow by into the intake tract.

I got tired of the oil dripping from my left carb early on in the early years of our relationship, and I rerouted the breather tube with a # of hose clamps and modifying the factory hoses and plastic tubes to suit my needs, which was to reroute the hose to exit the intake horn that was standard on the starter cover on the bikes that had the round air filters.

That junk all started to rot, and oil was getting everywhere, so it was time to fix it up.

This is what I came up with:

I still want to upgrade with some better hose.  It is better than what I had.  Just ask Sue (Canada)...

Wow, nice contraption, Like a downdraft tube, with a filter, does that filter get oily and replaced, did you do anything with the air pump, wait I dont think you bike has air injection pulse does it ?

No, no air injection on this model.  If you have the square air filter, you would have to come up with a different plan.

After 1 year, I have not had any oil drip off of the filter.
The clear plastic hose quickly turned a dirty yellow, but that is all.
