I recently purchased a 1982 R65. I would like to install a sport style windshield fairing to protect the instrument panel and provide some protection to the rider. These are the smaller fairings which are attached to the headlight or in some cases to the handlebar as well. I have looked at " universal" fairings available via Shade Tree Powersports, Dennis Kirk and J.C. Whitney. But, it is difficult to tell if they will fit. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can get a fairing that will fit. I should add that I have raised the handlebar by about 1 ", but that should have no bearing on the fairing size. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have precisely the same questions for my '86 R65. I have Euro bars, not raised. ???

Here are a few previous threads on this topic - the first one covers quite a few possible options for consideration/ideas-

Anyone tried the 8" Flatracer flyscreen or the Dart cockpit fairing?
Be interested to find out what sort of wind protection they offer.
Also worth a look at their galleries, a nice collection of very beautiful bikes.

I have just purchased the Dart fairing and unfortunately it does not fit the r65 without major surgery!!!. Edgar who owns Flatracer and is very helpful has informed me he has new fairing waiting in the wings that will fit and should be available soon.

I have a black fairing with a blacked out screen and also a universal fit "clear" windshield that were both fitted to my 1982 R65 at some point.
I'm happy to sell them if you're interested. Here is one picture with the fairing.

Nuvolari64 , can you be more precise? What exactly do you have to modify to make it fit?
Mrbindc, thanks for the offer I'll get back to you if I decide against the Dart.
-
The main problem is that there are no holes for the indicator stalks so you can not get an accurate idea of how much you would have to modify but the curve of the fairing would have problems getting over the instrument cover and brake fluid pot. Sorry i cannot be more accurate as i didn't want to risk drilling the holes when it was obvious it would not be an easy fit if at all.

Would you believe a Honda Nighthawk 750 has the same bar bend?
I swap the windshield between the '86 R65 and '92 Nighthawk frequently. I have the high bars on the R65...I run Slipstreamer mid-rise fairings...

I finally purchased the GP Sportbike Fairing form Denniskirk.com. With some minor adjusting and "cutting" I made the Fairing fit the bike. ( I also had to make my own brackets. The final look is identical to mrbindc pic. above. Hey I do like his seat....where did he get it?
