Title: disk and caliper clearance problem
Post by: mtpica on July 12, 2007, 12:43:01 PM
The problem is with my R100, but the system is similar enough to my R65 that I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I installed a new front wheel on a bike with twin front calipers (with my old brake disks swapped to it) and the right disk now scrapes a bit on the inside of the right hand caliper.  I remounted both the wheel and the right caliper a couple of times and the problem persists.

Any thoughts?  Do I need to shim the right front caliper a bit farther to the right?

Is there a safe way to shift the front wheel and axle just a wee bit to the left?

thanks,

Mark

I've seen in various BMW parts catalogs, that on some bikes there is a ring type metal 'gasket' that is installed between the rotor and wheel rim . I don't know how thick the part is, but it may be just enough to do the job. I don't see why you couldn't add a shim between the fork leg and caliper, I would make it large enough to cover the entire contact area between the fork leg and the caliper, not just the size of a washer.
