Title: Gen light at tick over

the generator light comes on at tick over speed, but goes out over that engine speed.

Is this a case of replacement, or are there parts that need replacing?

That's pretty much normal operation, as odd as that might seem to someone new to BMW airhead bikes.

If it's not out by the time you reach 1200 RPM, then you start worrying...  Put a voltmeter across your battery, rev to 3500 RPM, if you have at least 13.5 - 13.6 volts then your charging system is doing it's job.

thanks guys, another worry put to bed.

It's only there at around 1000 rpm, a fast idle and above and it's gone.
