Title: 1982 R65 What color is this tank?!
Post by: mfrias2nd on August 01, 2012, 01:58:19 PM
I've been searching on the web for months and I just can't find this color on any other R65 I've found. It's like a forest green. Can anyone help find the color code? I have a cafe cowl I've made that I want to match the tank to.

The official name for the color, is azure blue .

Let me check the bottom of the fuel tank on my '81 R65 for the color number, it's same color as yours .

I'm going out on a balsawood limb and say it's paint code number is 503, that's from memory, for whatever that's worth .

this is very strange. I thought it might have been the azure blue as well but every time i see my tank it seems darker and more green. I've had 2nd opinions and I'm told the same it definitely looks more green than blue.

I removed the fuel tank, it was almost empty anyway .

The sticker has 503 on it .

I have a paint touch up pencil from BMW, came with the bike when I bought it 31 years ago, oddly, the paint number on it is 159, yukaturkis metallic .

Here's a link to a guide to BMW motorcycle color codes .

I think turquoise is a more accurate description, than blue .

I'm the original owner of the bike, so I know nothing has been changed or messed with .

I have some pictures, if you would like to see them .

Yuka turqoise does seem better. When I google 503 turqoise it's a lot closer than Azur blue but my tank still seems darker like a darker forest green. It's odd. I'll check the underside of my tank today.

Oh and to answer about the clip ons they're tarozzi hi rise. They're up for sale if anyone is interested. I'm going with some clip ons with no rise. Yeah it'll kill my back but it's slightly more for looks. these clip ons are very comfortable if you like a more relaxed riding stance and they'll give it a cafe look.

I've got clip-on's on my 1983 R65.  Excellent on mountain roads, your upper back AND lower back AND neck WILL protest.
