So it seems when I navigate sharp turns (they're all sharp turns, amirite?) my rear turn signals will slip off the mounting stalk. I've reattached them a bazillion times, and I can feel that they're set correctly, but the next ride off they go.
I browsed the parts fiche and didn't see anything in particular, except that the "collar" the signal housing attaches to isn't in the fiche. Do I need to replace my turn signal housings, because the collar isn't supposed to be a separate piece? Or is it that the stalk isn't holding the signal housing tight enough?
I thought about attaching a picture, but I suspect you guys can imagine what a detached turn signal looks like...
Edit: '86 chasis, if that makes a difference.

There should be part that goes over the tube the turn directional slides onto that is held in by two screws .
You may need to remove the part, and adjust it's shape a bit, so it contacts the metal tube tighter and the turn directionals won't loosen up .
Or maybe just a wrap or two of electrical tape on the part will be enough to tighten it's grip on the tube .

Is that piece plastic? That could be the source of my problems, since there are zero screws involved.

No, it's metal, looks like a saddle it's got a hump in the middle that goes over the support tube .

You've got to remove the orange lens.
Then you'll see two screws that clamp the black plastic housing to the mount.
Tighten them down.
If still loose, the metal needs to be re-shaped a little to provide more force to the attachement bar.

Yep, figured out that part. Was going to tackle it last night then it never happened.. got into work this morning and both indicators had jumped off the bridge, so to speak. Fargle bargle.. I'm going to fix it this weekend for sure.

After removing the bulb and reflector assembly.
Beer can shim under the saddle clamp ought to tighten 'er up. Free beer Saturday nights, or is it Friday... I fergit... at Texas Cuban on South Lamar across from Winslow's cool Horsepower Farm.

I made the "repair", no need to sacrifice beer cans yet. It held yesterday and thus far today.. One bracket was bent, so I "rebent" (technical term there) it. The screws didn't seem to want to snug up completely, but they're threading into 26 year old plastic, so I guess I can forgive that.
I've been to the horsepower farm.. they have some neat cutaways as decorations and seem to turn over their cycle inventory pretty quickly. However for 80$ a shop hour I'll do it myowndamnself, thank you very much.
Is that the little restaurant in the shipping container? Work isn't very far at all from there...

Try an SAE sheet metal screw as a replacement. Just a bit larger and will cut new threads in the plastic so you're good for another twenty-six.
I should post up the photos of their cutaway Airhead engine.
