I have a second LS that I bought as a parts bike for the one that I restored and ride. It has a good running engine and a good gearbox. The problem is I need room in my garage. I am planning on disassembling the bike and storing it as parts on shelves rather than taking up floor space. By disassembling I mean in major components.
Any recommendations on prepping the engine for sitting on a shelf. Same with the gearbox. Both are tight with no oil leaks and have fairly fresh fluids (about a year old). Should I drain them or keep them full? Sitting as is or wrap in plastic? What about the final drive/drive shaft? Frame and wheels are going to be hung from the rafters.
Any ideas are welcome.

Loosen the tappets so all the valves are closed. Fill the combusion chambers full of oil. Fill the crankcase as full as you can get it. Same with the transmission and final drive.
The idea is that, all of these components being open to air, will also be open to moisture. With oil completely filling them, there will be no free air space for that to happen.
Wash and wax the bodywork and frame - all the painted surfaces.
Empty the gas tank and carbs and leave the petcocks open.
Hit all the plastics and seat with plastic renewer.

Wirespokes has pretty much got it covered. The only thing I would add is that I use a product called waxoyl on all the bare alloy surfaces and they come up like new when the waxoyl is removed with white spirit. I Suppose if the bits aren't going anywhere clean engine oil would work just as well.

Thanks for the help guys.

... an imperative with small aviation airplane engines. I'm sure there are plenty of other resources out there:
Phillips Anti-Rust Oil and Dehydrator Plugs
