Title: transmission fluid change

I recently bought an r65 I need to change all the fluids and grease the splines can any one give advice or point me in the right direction?

I just put the procedure I used in the FAQ/tech section, along with a weblink to the "slide back" method for clutch spline lubing.

For the spline lube I didn't go all the way and take off the whole tranny...just slid it back.  I used snowbum's procedure here:

If you need to get the throwout bearing out of the bore, small refrigerator magnets did the trick fairly well.  And I also used some cheap chinese restaurant chopsticks for the acid brush extensions.  

Oh when changing the oil don't try to loosen the plug and drain the oil into a plastic funnel that goes to a pan.  The gods will cause the plug to land perfectly in the funnel and plug it up, overflowing hot oil everywhere.  I now just drain straight into a turkey tin foil pan.  Works much better.  Are you going to change the filter too?  

I think everything else is pretty straight forward, but then again that's what I think before the job takes me 6 hours.   :o

It always takes longer the first time .

You never know what kind of problems you'll find with rusted corroded fasteners or previous owner(s) attempts to accomplish something, only to cause more work for you .

Just take your time and take pictures to help you in the reassembly process .

Hey there Mike and others. About that webBikeworld article instructions. Seem pretty simple. Am I missing something as I am pretty sure that my brother and I used a bottlejack to support something and tied up the rear end?? I think we removed something or other on the rear forks too.
So ya don't ever need to remove that dreaded universal drive shaft rubber boot or those bolts under it?? Sounds like I could do this alone....after I get over my caliper boo boo. Sometimes ya just feel like yer cursed and everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Oh how I envy those with built-in-live-in mechanics like Voni Glaves or Suzanne Parkhouse.

That's just what I do Sue

A Jack to support the gearbox and prevent it dropping when it slides back and damaging  the neutral switch. And a rope to pull back on the rear end to maintain the gap and access to the splines.
