Hello everyone....trying to clean the Bean Can weight mechanism and I could not remove the Drift pin in the shaft, that allows the innards to come out of the can.
I tried heating it and tapping with a small hammer but it did not buzz. Hopefully it is not tapered or has a particular direction to push it out to? Any suggestions?

A vise will be handy along with a drift punch with a slightly smaller diameter than the pin. A nice ball-peen hammer completes your tooling requirements.
Position the two legs of the drive end so that they lay flat on one jaw of the vise. Pad the other end of the bean can and gently snug it into the vise. No crushing pressure required, just enough to hold the unit in position.
Use the drift punch and an application of the hammer to the pin. The pin is a tight fit as designed so it will require some firm encouragement but it will move through. No need to fully remove the pin; just move it through until the shaft comes free.
I've rebuilt a few bean cans and this is a safe way to extract the pin. Best of luck.

There's a posting in the R65 Technical FAQ section, second page that goes through the process of disassembly, it's for a contact breaker type ignition, but it's valid for what you want .
It looks like it's a straight pin .

Thanks guys....I have the vise and was using it as Monte described. I was a bit reluctant to hit it a bit harder thinking that might break something. I will give it a try again and hopefully it works.

If the pin proves stubborn you can still do a reasonable clean up job on the advance mechanism once the points backup plate is removed. Did you manage to get the plate out yet ?

Thanks Guys....I managed to take the pin out. It is a real tight fit, had to hit it hard to push it out, plus heating helped. The Bean Can had lots of dried up gum/grease but very easy to work on once every thing was out.
Berry....I did that last time a couple of years ago and i knew it is not clean inside. The plate was also stuck and could not take it out. But at last it all worked out.
