Title: Gearbox Oil Fill Nut
Post by: Sava66 on June 03, 2012, 11:48:32 AM
I'm really embarrassed to ask this question, but the gearbox fill plus is horizontal, not vertical. do i need some kind of special tube to get it in there? I have a pretty narrow funnel. i guess that won't work?

I use a length of tubing on a small funnel, or if you have a small nipple like tip on the gear oil bottle, put the tubing on it .

I bought several small bottles of gear oil a few years back that came with tube like spouts 4 or 5 inches long that attach in place of the bottle caps. The spout has a stopper on the end so it can be left on to seal the bottle. I've kept those containers and decant gear oil into one to fill the gearbox and engine oil into another to fill the sump.  I have funnels but these are like funnels that you don't have to clean after each use.

I have one of these that I kept gear oil in.  It is not the fastest, but I measured how many pumps it took to get 100cc of oil into my driveshaft housing, and that worked a treat!
