Title: Transmission Not Shifting
Post by: Crossrodes on May 18, 2012, 01:12:15 AM
Today I went for a ride with some friends.  These guys are not slowpokes.  We rode at between 130 and 140 kph for about an hour.  When I got back to town and wanted to shift into lower gears the transmission would not shift.  I pulled into a gas station and filled the tank and was there for about 10 minutes.  I'm guessing that the transmission cooled down a tad. It shifted fine when I left the gas station.  Is this a common scenario with the R65 or have I got a problem starting?  Anyone know?

The only two problems I have heard about with the transmission not wanting to shift, is a broken pawl spring in the shift mechanism, but if it breaks, it won't start working again .

The other is a problem that I had, the oil seal that the shifter shaft goes through, was put in crooked and allowed you to upshift, but when you wanted to down shift, fourth gear was the lowest you could go and again, it didn't 'fix' itself with waiting 10 minutes .

All I can suggest, is the usual things, correct oil level in the transmission, look the shifter and clutch mechanisms and see if you can find anything out of the ordinary with them .

That is an odd one and the first time I've heard of it. Consider yourself fortunate it worked after gassing up.

I'd also check the trans oil and the drain magnet for slivers or chunks of the bright and shiny.
