Title: Front (and rear) Turn signal stems cracked off
Post by: craig@pmpress.org on May 08, 2012, 09:23:07 AM
Hi fellas, one of the front turn signal stems snapped off on the ride home. After a look, I don't see an easy way to reattach it (JB weld?) so it has now joined it's rear turn signal brother as being held up by duct tape. What are the recommendations for re-attaching, or putting on new signals, or even fork mounted signals on the front? As always, need to do so "on the cheap," and smaller signals might be an improvement...so I don't break them again.

Mine did the same. took to local workshop. Rewelded using a mig welder. Cost negligable and he sprayed it as well a great job.

You can occasionally find a set of used stalks on ebay, craigs, IBMWR, MOA flea mkt and the like.  You can also probably buy them new at dealers like Bob's, Max, Motobins, etc.  Or there is a plethora of aftermarket turn signals from which to choose.  If repair is not an option then replacing shouldn't be much of a problem.  But sometimes mounting the aftermarket signals does require a bit of creativity and some fabrication.

I've re-welded them. It's not unheard of them breaking off.

Butt welding the turn signal's tubing stalks may lead to a future recurrence. I have matched up and slipped a small piece of tubing -approx one-inch length- within the stalk prior to welding. Make sure you can get the wires through or just refresh the spade connectors.
