Title: R65LS Gas Tank Rubber Support
Post by: wmsoller on May 05, 2012, 08:33:45 AM
First off, thanks to all for the recent help with my R65LS restore. I've yet another question. I know there are two rubber supports under the gas tank--mine were missing--but wasn't certain of the location. Any pics to share? Thanks again.

There are 2  "L" shaped rectangles of rubber approx. 6mm thick that should be glued underneath the tank at  the rear to make the tank quite a tight fit over the frame tubes.

Here's a previous thread with a picture.

Both the front and read rubber bits are still available from both BMW dealers and aftermarket folks like Motobins.

Yeah, they are available...

But you don't want to know how much those rear ones cost!

Believe me, it's nuts!

You'll do just as well cutting about 1.5 inches of thick hose, slicing it length-wise, and grinding about half the thickness off for half of it's circumference. Another way to say it is: leave it full thickness where the tank rests on it, then about half thickness on the sides.

It also needs to be cut at an angle - maybe a 45 - you'll get the idea real quick once you know where they go.
