Well I just converted my BSA thunderbolt to Modern X-ring 520 chain. I selected the DID 520VT2 because it was the same width as the 530 narrow link chain that comes on the BSA (and Triumphs).
So with it comes a master link a couple of spare x-rings and a small packet of chain grease.
It is a really sticky lithium type yellow white grease for putting inside the xrings between the outer plate and the pins of the master link.
And it got me thinking: Sticky (low no throw), High pressure application. Hmmmmm
I may have found a good grease for the BMW Tranny input spline. They don't sell it in the US though I did get some from the TN DID rep.
Is this worth pursuing? [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]

Where did you find sprockets to use with that chain? How many miles do you expect that chain to last? I guess I only go about 15,000 with my 530 chain, and replace the sprockets every other chain. My drive sprocket has very little extra clearance around it so I too would need to switch to a size 520.

Hi Ed,
I had Ed V Engineering in Michigan machine a front BSA 530 21T front sprocket down to 520 width. He then had it hardened (Rockwell45).
The rear sprocket is a stock B50 47T that bolts on to the conical rear hub from Baxter Cycle. If you have the older style QD hub then you can get a 520 sprocket from the BSA 441 parts list.
The chain is DID 520VT2 x-ring chain that has the same width as the british 530 narrow link. I expect it to last a long time. To nsure that this happens I have installed a Cameleon Automatic Chain Oiler.
I got tired of having to change chains out every 7-8000 miles.
I would be happy if this set up lasted 20 or 30,000 miles. We will see...

Bill, I tried some grease from BMW that is specifically for spline use, Microlube 261 .
It's a clear lithium based grease ($16US for a 1 ounce tube) , quite sticky, I put it on the transmission input splines on the '82 LS .
Saw a posting recently about the grease and from a few people's experiences, the grease didn't hold up very well, don't know the specifics about it .
So I guess that the Honda Moly 60, is probably the way to go !!!!!
