Title: Painted headers and mufflers... finally.
Post by: Jmo on March 30, 2012, 05:23:06 PM
Hope they last.  Could not find high temperature glossy paint so I painted the headers flat black with VHT header paint.  Supposedly it's a silica-ceramic coating that withstands 1300-2000 F.

Baked it in the oven for curing, that was a pain.  My oven only goes up to 550 F and it asked for 600 so i hope it won't be a problem

For the mufflers I used glossy black Rust-oleum engine enamel.  It's good up to 500 F.

I'll report on results after a few rides.

I hope your ol' lady was easier on you than mine was when I baked a set of exhaust manifolds...   [smiley=whistling.gif]

What she doesn't know won't hurt her.  Hope the next time she bakes something it tastes OK.  The chemical stink when I baked the parts was pretty strong.

I did clean the oven though, to soften the blow if she does find out.

Anyone used to "boil" their motorcycle chain in Linklyfe on the kitchen stove when your mother/wife was out of the house.  ?(http://)

If you have one, a backyard gas grille is great to cure parts. Mine has a temp gauge, so I know approximately what the temp is.
Saves the marriage.
