Hi
I'm going through my newly acquired bike, trying to straighten out some neglect and found the coil suspended from a few wire ties.
Pretty sure these are not factory mounts. I will try to attach a picture of what I have. It seems the coil is in the right location but there are no brackets to mount it. Then again it may not, it might go under the seat for all I know.
Maybe someone can look at picture and give me an idea of what I need to do.
Thank You, Tom

The coil you have, is an aftermarket coil, looks like a DYNA, you need an adapter bracket to properly install the coil .
If you cut the tie wraps and pull the coil out, you'll see the OEM mounts .
Also, maybe just my interpretation of the picture, but the coil looks like it has a crack in the middle, of it running vertical .

Definitely cracked. Fortunately coils are available from a variety of sources. Motobins, Motorrad Elektrik to name a couple. One of the members may have one that is serviceable at a reasonable price.

Your ignition coil is a Dyna Brown. Yes, it looks orange to me, too. The photo shows a portion of the aluminum mount bracket and the supplied hardware. Note how it attaches to your existing coil mount which formerly held a Bosch Crack-O-Matic, the bastid son to Lord Lucas, the Prince of Darkness. :o
Purchased the Dyna for both my R65s from Rick Jones at Motorrad Elektrik. http://www.motoelekt.com/index.html Give Rick a call on his 800 number and ask if he has a coil bracket he might sell you. I'll bet the answer will be 'yes'.

After looking at your damaged coil, you may as well go all the way and buy the complete coil package with all the installation hardware and instructions. Your existing coil may or may not get you home. It is definitely toast.

+1 - highly recommend you get the coil with bracket kit from Rick at Motorrad Elektrik - that coil, if it is managing to still work now, won't for very much longer, especially if it gets wet..

Ok thanks guys
I did see the crack and I was pretty sure it has a short future.
Will get new one and mount brackets. At least now I have some idea where it's supposed to be.

You can also use a coil from a K100 as i do,i made a bracket and used the same mounting holes and screws from the original crack-o-matik,i iv'e since bought a couple of used spares, just a idea for you,i'm in the UK so the Dyna Brown is expensive here.
