Anyone ever tried using one of these to set your carb mixture?
-
I've got one, problem with mine, is that the spark arcs across the glass viewng window .
The later version, had a ceramic insulator that the spark plug lead attaches to .
The one I have, just has a tightly wound spring with a thin insulator on it, it threads onto a short threaded stud that comes out of the clear glass viewing window .
The 'spring' lead then snaps it into the spark plug cap, I haven't been able to get to work correctly .
Need to find some sort of sealant to seal the area where the 'spring' lead meets the glass .
I remember one member here, I think it was semper gumby, has one, hopefully he can add some of his experience .

I haven't used a colour tune for a very long time. My recollection is that it wasn't a magic solution to setting the mixture accurately. Aiming for a completely blue flame I always seemed to end up with the mixture too weak and lost power as a result. Probably would be very useful to indicate mixture differences side to side when balancing the carbs. I would like to try one again for that.

Iv'e had one around for years, used to use it on one of my cars,it will work with bike but i found the exact same thing you said Barry,i got it nice and blue but it was too weak and the bike was like a hedgehog trying to cross the road, very slow! so reverted back to the method many do on here, but iv'e replaced my diaphrams and i'm going to give it another go.
