Title: R65 intake rubbers
Post by: oz_johnno on March 14, 2012, 06:40:21 AM
blokes, I pulled the carb intake rubbers off today.  I had to  do this very carefully as they were cracked and very hard.

For a set of these rubbers munich motorcycles wants $66 + $9.50 p&h for what looks like 4x 1.5" lengths of radiator hose.... talk about rip off.

does anyone know the diameter of these hoses so that I can investigate alternatives ??

I've also noticed that they seem expensive and share your concerns but I don't think you can safely assume radiator hose will work well as substitute. It will depend if the rubber is fuel resistant and I doubt that. Probably needs to be Nitrile rubber.

How about large diameter fuel hose if it can be got in the correct size ?  I found something close at 38mm. See the 1 1/2 " hose in this link

Having removed them you are probably in a better position than us to measure an accurate figure off the the carb stubs.

Hope you find something that works.

Check this link with photos at Motobins. 6.25£ each is better than your quote.

I also bought new hose connectors sometime ago for one of the R65s from Hucky's in Florida. Non-BMW repops; probably auto parts hose. Fabric reinforced rubber with a smooth interior. Maybe source something local. Way back, I bought the correct size hose at a NAPA auto parts store for the intake manifold rubbers on a VW aircraft conversion. I ran auto fuel. Never a problem.
