Folks,
I'm having a hard time finding a good battery to fit my 81 R65. I order a recommended MotoBatt MBTX24U. Too big. The dimensions on the current battery is 7.13 X 3.03 X 6.57 (current junk battery Universal UB12180)
Any suggestions
Thanks

It's usually the 3.03" width that's the problem as few batteries are slim enough to fit the carrier. You can go up to 3.25" or 82mm but be aware when measuring batteries that the main body is nearly always slimmer than the top moulding.
The correct Varta battery is a 51814 or a 51913
One thing you can't do is just Google for an R65 battery. The internet is awash with batteries that are sold to fit an R65 but will not. Always check the max. size 186 Long x 82 Wide x 171 High

Scroll down to the FAQs Section and read the "Source for AGM batteries".
Then go to the attached link and order one. I have two R65s and the Staab AGM batteries are in both. It's been several years since their install but my Battery tender keeps 'em as fresh as the day they were delivered. Several forum inmates use these batteries.

I couldn't find it at first. It's a sticky at the top of the FAQ board index ....and every other board index.

I got mine from NAPA. Just went on line and researched all the sizes, then had the local shop bring it in to their location, It has been trouble free, good price and had a warranty.

That's the exact battery I use. I just bought my third one but haven't installed it yet. I put a new one in every 4 years on general principle. The two I've used have both worked fine. I keep an old one for powering my timing light or for testing 12V stuff.
