Neither the tach nor the speedometer are accurate on my '86 R65, and I'd like 'em to be. Any thoughts on where I might get them looked at/repaired, or thoughts on what might be wrong with 'em. The tach hovers at about 2 K at idle, and sometimes just hangs at about 1K, while the speedo is around 5 mph too fast.

Pretty much normal for the speedometer to be reading high on an airhead BMW .
Tachometer, you'll need to check with a shop that repairs speedometers and see if they can do anything about getting it more accurate .
I can't remember anyone here having this work done before on a tachometer .

Like Rob says - these beemer speedos read 'optimistic', and five mph high at 60 is slightly less then the 10 and 15% I normally hear about and see.
The electronic tachs are something else again. See if there's a speedo shop in your area that will work on it. The one here in town won't - they send them off to Palo Alto or Hollywood Speedo. Yours may need a simple adjustment, but the way it's acting I wouldn't bet on it. But I'm no expert when it comes to them. They look pretty simple, but it's really hard to see what those pesky electrons are up to! They might all be on permanent coffee break for all I know.

I have an '86 R65 and the speedo read 10 mph fast at anything over 45 mph. Foreign Speedo in San Diego fixed it perfectly for less than a hundred bucks total, incl. shipping. No problems with the tach, but I'd bet they can fix it too. And...they were helpful and friendly on the phone.

Didn't notice all the responses, so I neglected to thank all of you. So...Thank You. I can now get it taken care of.
