Evening All!
Can anyone tell me what, if any benefits, i'll get from putting a 19" rim on the front wheel.
I've been given some spoked wheels for the BMW, they need new rims (for aesthetic reasons) but am thinking about a 19" rim on the front.
What will it do to the bike??
Thanks

What will it do to the bike??
It will raise the front of the bike, lengthen the wheel base and change the handling. Don't know if it will be a significant effect but you would expect it will slow the steering.
Perhaps an overlooked effect is that the brakes will be slightly less effective with the larger wheel.

Tire clearance issues may require removing the heavy steel fork brace fitted under the front fender.

+1 with the above, and you won't want to remove the brace as the handling will be awful - you may well have to modify it /drill holes to allow more clearance however.
You could slightly lower the tubes in the yokes to mitigate the change of rake/trail/wheelbase

I am running a 19 inch spoke wheel on my R65 cafe racer.
You will have to raise the fork legs through the yoke/triple tree by half an inch to undo the handling effects mentioned above, of the bigger wheel.
Your current fender is meant for the smaller 18 inch wheel. I have no idea if it will still be any good.
I am also running a non standard for brace/fender combination.
But then, my bike is non-standard.

Nice bike, Steve!
Back on topic - I recall seeing an R65 fitted with an R80ST front wheel (19") and nothing needed to be done. He hadn't changed the forks or the fender mount or fender. He said it handled fine, and rode it all over. I have noticed there is quite a bit of room under that fender/mount, and don't see why the larger wheel wouldn't fit.

Now then
Cheers for he replies............not been on for a few weeks.
Gonna stick to an 18" rim, for now but thanks for all the info.
Bike is not running standard mudguards any more & back end hoop has been chopped to accommodate single seat etc
I will add photos at some point...........when i dare, i'm not too happy with it's look just yet!!
