Just finished installing a set of new brushes on my alternator.
Two of the washers fell from the alternator as I removed the brush holder, so I'm not 100% sure.
I reinstalled them in this order; brusher holder, large insulated washer, small washer, alternator housing, small washer, large washer, nut.
Is this the correct order?

I can't remember which brush, is the powered one from the regulator .
You need to have correct washer position, or the alternator will not work, the battery voltage from the regulator will just be sent to ground at the alternator housing, from the bolt not being insulated .
Sorry I can't be precise, it's been about 10 years since I changed the brushes on my '81 R65 .
You may be able to determine this from a wiring diagram, I don't have an R65 at work today, so I don't have a wiring diagram handy at work .

I know I've got the insulated washers on the right post, insulated hot Df. Just not in the right order, I'm getting no charge on my multimeter when I rev the throttle. Also the charging light stays lit even after a ride around the block.
I think I accidentally placed the two metal washers in between the insulated ones. I'm going to switch the order of them tonight and see if that will do the trick.

I was able to get the correct set up of the washers from Rick at Motorrad Elektrik . :)
The two large insulating washers go on either side of the alternator housing on the hot DF post. The small washers go one on each post just under the nuts.
