I only want to go 20 miles out and 20 miles back. Besides, its almost all continuous 55 mph driving with only 4 traffic lights (2 at each end).
I've searched for the term trailer, towing, hitches the other day and came up empty. Surely someone out there has attempted this with their r65?

Could you be more specific? Are you towing the bike, or towing someone else? When I've run out of gas, a friend towed me a few miles to town. And I've heard of much longer tows. There's a trick to it, and it's not the safest thing to do.
Why? What's the story?

Your picasweb link negative function.

Your picasweb link negative function.
Monte, copy and paste the link, then remove the ellipsis in the middle should set you up.
As for the original poster.. did you have a question? Just ride the thing! The R65 can handle 20 mile trips no problem.

I don't understand the question either, and even after pasting together the parts parts of the broken URL link in the original post, I see pics only of a blue R65 and a Chevy van? Surely, you're not proposing towing a van with the R65, and towing an R65 not on a trailer behind a van could be disasterous..

:) Okay, so I got the link business fixed.

I want to learn about the avialbility of hitches for my r65 to tow a small 125 # cargo trailer. I have some bulky items that I don't want to strap on to the rear and would much rather tow behind my blue 1983 BMW r65.

Back in the late 80's to early 90's Reylonds made a hitch for the R65 and other R bikes. Have not seen any new hitch's out there. You could make one. Find a picture of one installed on any R bike with twin shock. The Reylonds need their rear rack for some of the support at the rear mounting. The front mounting was at the passenger foot pegs.

thanks for the replies. Interesting stories in that thread. I'll see where it leads me...

Just my two cents here, but a van or truck can be rented by the hour from many bog box stores these days and would be less time consuming and probably less expensive than setting up your bike as a tow rig, not to mention safer. Like I said, just my two cents...

I think classic industries in queensland australia make a towing kit for the R65.
After I inherited beryl from my dad, I rode her home and towed 'the war chariot' (classic touring trailer 600l capacity) with me. the trailer towed well despite beign full of lots of stuff from dads house, sitting on a steady 100km/hr (65mph) for the whole 400km (250 mile) trip)
hope this helps

I built a small steel and plywood box trailer and a tow hitch for my R65. I towed it full of camping gear about 400 km detouring back through mountains and gravel roads. It nearly killed the bike!
I gave the trailer away to a guy who wanted one for his farm atv and I can't remember what happened to the hitch, it certainly isn't here anymore.
Unless you only ride in very flat country without headwinds I wouldn't recommend putting a 50hp 650 through it.
