Title: Dash Turn Signal Light issue
Post by: VaSteve on August 10, 2011, 09:18:34 PM
I had the whole bike apart and put back together.   Bike runs and all, but I have one last issue.  My right turn signal on teh dash isn't working.  Or, it's working too well, depending on how you look at it.

When the key is turned the headlight comes on and so does the turn signal on the dash - BRIGHT. If I turn the key the rest of the way, the actual signals come on (I have a Kaisan signal minder).   At that point the left one will come on (dimly) as it always has.

When I use the signals they work correctly, but the right dash indicator won't blink.  It's just full on bright- always.  There must be something I did wrong putting this all back together, but I'm not sure what.  I guess I'm going to have to trace all the wiring and look and see if something is jumpered, but I was hoping someone had a guess here first.

It would make more sense if it didn't work!

There is a connector or two around the speedometer that is meant for clock and voltmeter internal illumination .

The wire color is green with a black spiral band .

The correct color for the right turn directional is blue with a black spiral band .

I think you may have a quick fix when you get in there .

Bob, that's interesting.  I'll look at it, but I did leave all the wiring pretty much intact as I removed it.  The wires to that bulb are blue, but I might have mixed it up somewhere upstream.

I'm sadly suspecting it's the way something under the tank is connected.

I shall check and report back.  :)

UH, Bob is the Man!

I didn't think it would be possible to mix this up, but sure if I didn't do so.  All of a 3 minute fix.  2 minutes was for a facepalm.    :-[

There should be a phillips head screw on each side of the forward most part of the instrument cover .

Remove those screws take the cover off, you can then pull the turn directional out and probably need to replace the lamp .

You can put the other lamp from the left side to make sure it is a lamp problem .

The replacement lamps are a commonly available part at auto parts stores .

Not difficult at all,
just unscrew the two cross head screws either side on the lower side of the instrument housing and pull off the lower half, The two indicator dash bulbs can now be just pulled out. An auto store should have a replacement bulb, If I remember correctly, its a 3W one you need.

Thanks Mike, I just wanted someone to mention that unscrewing the whole instrument housing was safe!!!

Good day my friend!!
