Title: Threaded stud
Post by: stockman on April 27, 2011, 10:05:40 PM
On the left side of the motorcycle where the clamp going around the exhaust pipe is attached to a stud1/2" in dia roughly. Is that stud removable? Could I get a longer one? I'm adding a side stand I picked up locally from a BMW repair shop and really would like to have that stud 1/2" longer to accommodate the the bracket that the clevis for the stand is mounted to. It's not entirely necessary, I could maybe find a hex nut that is shorter or use a nyloc nut. Anyone know?

I think your talking about the thru bolt that mounts the engine, It has a nut on both ends, loosen the right side and tap it farther to the left so you'll have more bolt to work with.

Ok great that's perfect. Never would have thought it's that simple. Thanks

What would be the appropriate torque for the engine mounting bolts?
Just to make sure I don't have them too tight or loose.

Your shop manual will have all the torque specs you'll need.
