Hi Gang,
I plan on swapping the right head on my R65 soon. Don't like the idea of riding around with the tacked in stainless steel flange that covers the exhaust port with stripped threads. Besides, I've got an exhaust leak.
Question: do you guys suggest I buy a new head gasket? The engine only has less than 50 miles running time and the one that's in there is new.
Thanks

For less than £10 why take the risk ?

Normally if it was me (and I've done it sucessfully in the past) I would try and re-use it if only for the convenience of not having to wait for a new one or make a special trip and if the truth be told also to save the £10.
...but unless both heads are perfectly flat the chances of it working OK for you are not as good as they would have been if you were putting the same head back on the same barrel.

I think Barry's bottom line is "yes", replace it.
Call Chicago BMW and order it on the phone. Should be $14.16 after their discount, plus shipping.
Cheaper than Huckys.
Or if you are willing to wait another week, Motobins (£7.25) $11.85 USD (as I type this).

Thanks much.
Is best way to get part number by going to Realoem dot com?
I saw this on Ebay but not sure it's the right one:

716 - yep! That is the correct one! Go for it!
RealOEM is where I normally go for my part numbers.
I have two of their pages "saved". One with my frame # in it (1979) and one with my new engine # in it (1981).
