Title: R65Squawks: Centerstand tab, odo inop & bean can
Post by: Red_Hen on April 07, 2011, 07:18:19 PM
I've read threads about the tab on these bikes breaking off - mine came broken off - will it be okay to take the bike to the local welder and have him weld a piece on or is this inadvisable?

I shared with Mike V. about the odometer not working - I'll reset it to zero and it gets stuck on the point nine - not worth it to me, at least now, to get it fixed.  The tank is jumbo and with a reserve, I should be safe for metro riding.

Bean Can: do I need to go in there and clean it up or look at it?  Not sure if the shop did anything in there or not.

If the bike is running fine, I'd probably not mess with the beancan until/if you have symptoms indicating you should go in there.  On the other hand, if you are planning a big/long trip, say 1000 miles or more, maybe you might want to go in there and just clean things up beforehand as a preventative measure if you have no records of it ever being serviced.     As for me, I haven't gone in to mess with it on my bike, and I've been riding it for ~8 years now since I rescued it, and I've ridden it from New Hampshire to Tennessee and back and all over New England area with no issues.
