I went to change the gear oil in the final drive yesterday, (1984 R65), and found the drain plug is stripped, and noticed a small crack in the housing where the plug threads in. Anyone out there know which housings will fit my R65? All I need is the housing, the internals are fine, (only 20,000 miles).
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Ron

Here's a few parts microfiche resources for you. Good places to begin your research and get part numbers. Will be good fun swapping in pieces parts. You might also search for a useable final drive from a breaker.

If and or when you remove the parts from the damaged final drive housing, you need a specialty tool to remove a nut holding the input/pinon shaft .

It is not as 'simple' a swap as some might think, given the special tools involved, and that the gear assembly needs to be shimmed/fitted. I'd expect that changing the housing that holds the gears could have wear/mfg tolerance differences that still require fitting of the gears in a new housing, even if the gears are a previously matched set.
