Title: caliper spacers
Post by: cobra407 on March 12, 2011, 06:34:52 AM
I rebuilt my calipers this week. On the left side there are some spacers/ sleeves where the mounting bolts go though. they were on the outside of the caliper when i removed it. Im thinking they should go on the insider between the caliper and mounting plate. this way the caliper is centered over the disk. is this correct? thank you peter

I probably should have mentioned this is for an r65ls with 2 ATE calipers.

maybe i just answered my own question. based on this the spacer sleeve goes on the outside and there are different sizes to center it.

any other thought would be appreciated... (sorry for 3 posts)

You're correct on the purpose of the sleeve/spacers .

It's odd, but only one caliper has the spacers, I thought it was the right caliper, I'll have to wait until it gets light outside and I'll check my '81 R65 .

I can't remember either of mine having spacers.  Do you have a picture of them?

Ed - Peter,

The spacers are in-between the two caliper halves in the attached picture link below...

As Bob's 81, my caliper spacers are only on the right side caliper.  Yours could very well be on the left.  The purpose of the spacers are to center the caliper on the rotor(s).

And I've included a PDF link below showing the top caliper spacer assembled.
