I looked through the forum and couldn't find it. I'm sure you've all done this before, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a complete list of BMW factory accessories for 79-84 r65's?

dav,
That's a fun one isn't it?! I still have my original brochures when I bought my /7 in 78. Something magical about that time.

Thanks!!

Yea, got that site bookmarked myself. Yard doesn't get mowed, faucet still dripping, paint peeling on the porch... Where does the time go? ::)

We seem to be suffering from the same disease Monte.

I don't think that site has this brochure on it that shows the accessories for the R65. I scanned the pertinent pages: http://www.pbase.com/tomfarr/scans_of_brochure
It does not show the R45/R65 mini-fairing, but it does mention it on the last page.

That mini-fairing was specific to the R65 and was similar to the classic "S" but with flat more angular sides.
Now I again have an R65 & am dying to find another one -- I think they have become extinct.
Since I'm a new member, I can't post a photo of mine from 1980 yet. But I will do it soon.

Here are some pictures, for those so inclined. I don't remember where I got them.

The original brochure and accessories brochure came with my bike when I bought it.
I also still have the original brochure for the Z900 I bought new in 1976 so even though I don't have the bike I can still dream.

One of the most unique and coolest looking fairing piece ever.

"Not only looks good, but keeps out dust and splash water"
Another way of BMW saying it was only for looks. ;D

Hey Splinter,
I think the fairings are still available from BMW. Part #46631240822. It's still listed in Max BMW's part fiche anyway. [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]

Yep - Chicago lists it, too. $220. $176 with their 20% discount. And a significant waiting period.

I would call the BMW breakers in the U.S. and see if they happen to have one.

Those cowls/fairings appear to be more similar to the ones that came on the "st" models. the one I am referring to is shown in the Gustafsson online catalog as a "Manxman" and the Gustafsson site shows a page from the same catalog I ordered mine from in 1979. But, Gustafsson only has the windscreen.

The Manxman fairing was NOT a factory accessory. It sure does look sharp though. I went with the Tracy fairing when I added one to my bike in the 80's.
Yes, the factory cowl fitted the ST models, as well.

That is another neat feature of RealOEM - on the "home page" (for your bike), there is a field called "PART NR APPLICATION SEARCH". Type your part # in their, and you can see every application for every little bit on the bike, including the parts use in BMW automobiles.

BCW? (Bavarian Cycle Works)
I still have my catalog. :)
-
Aha! BCW - I've been trying to pull that name back. Lucky you with your catalog still around. Are they still in business, are the fairings still available? [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif]

Apparently they are still around, as an independent shop in San Francisco.

And I think the only way you will find a Manxman fairing would be on the used market.
This weekend, I will scan that catalog and put it on my PBase account.
