Help please (again....). I have to replace the alternator brushes and brush-holder. If I read the diagram right, that means removing the alternator housing. Ok. But it looks like I also have to take the stator out of the housing and I can't see how it's fixed to it. Surely it's fixed in some way, I mean, if it could shake around it might rub on the rotor? Or does it just drop out of the housing? Or have I missed something? Thanks!

The stator is just a tight fit into the housing .
I would remove the stator from the engine before proceeding .
Once removed from the engine, a little tapping with a rubber/plastic hammer should get it loosened up to where it separates .
Also, once you get the stator removed from the housing, the bolts that hold the brush holder to the housing, have special fiber washer/spacer's to keep the bolts from touching the housing, note how these are placed, or your alternator won't charge if the bolts aren't put back together correctly .

Having worn down some of my teeth -grit, grit- while resoldering the woven copper wire brush leads onto their attach points, I discovered some weeks later that intelligent people simply fit small, closed-ring terminals to the new leads and use tiny bolts and nuts to refit. Hobby shops source the hardware.
One of those small butane soldering torches generated enough heat and did simplify my job, just a bit.
Next time, it's nut n' bolt... that's my plan. Monte

Thanks Bob, Monte, Msbuck. It looks like when I tap the stator away from the housing, I should be careful not to damage the wiring link between the stator and the 3-pin terminal, is that correct? It looks that there may not be a lot of slack in the wiring.
