Title: Fuel tank ooze
Post by: rob650 on May 18, 2007, 09:41:01 PM
the petcock (new in 2005) on my fuel tank seems to very slowly ooze this junk thats almost the consistency of light motor oil.  The petcock is covered in a film of oily grime.  Is this the insides of my tank eating itself and leaking out?  THe tank is original - insides have never been stripped and sealed.

Can't think of why a metal tank filled with gasoline would ooze this junk.  Any ideas why this is happening..?

Have you removed the petcock lately to check the condition of the main seal (I think it is red?).  I am also thinking it is an integral part of the large filter screen.  (I didn't take mine apart this year, and I have forgotten.)

Point is, that seal might be leaking and the gas that is seeping out is getting nasty real quick.

Just a guess.
