Title: Corbin Seat
Post by: Crossrodes on November 19, 2010, 12:04:14 AM
I'm thinking of going with a Corbin rather than re-covering mine.  Has anyone doe this on a 79 and if so what model seat?

I'll be watching this closely, Mike. I just picked up a '79 and am also interested in a new (and slightly lower, perhaps) seat.

Ben I spoke with someone from Corbin today and was told that the models that they have on their web site are no longer available for the R65.  However if I take my seat in to them they would make me a seat using my pan.

They are located in Hollister Ca.  I will be going down there around Christmas but they will be closed.  I haven't figured out what I will do yet.

I have a seat from a '79 for sale if anyone wants it for the pan.  No rear cowl.
Probably minor rust (I haven't looked at it in a while).

When will you be there? I'll be visiting some family in the Bay Area between Dec. 20 and 24th. If it worked for you, perhaps you could send your seat to me and I could drop it off on my drive up there? (I'm taking a car versus a bike, so I'll have plenty of space for stuff).

Just an option to consider.

As I'm planning to go more cafe racer with my R65, I'm leaning heavily towards the "FlatRacer Tail Kit" from this link:

Thanks Rob but I don't need a pan.  Actually I had mine powder-coated and I probably will use it.

Ben thanks for the offer but the woman I spoke with at Corbin wanted me to arrive with the seat.  And I want to speak with them personally if they are going to make a custom for me.  I'm going to be around that area on Dec 28/29 maybe.  I'll be travelling to Yuma at that time.

I have another option.  I contacted a company called Vicious motorcycles just now and the person I spoke with (Eric Russel) is going to talk to someone he knows in Florida who used to design seats for Corbin.  He's going to see if he can come up with any other options for me.   If I have any success I'll let you know.

These people are only 4 hours from you.  They come very highly recommended by Joan, a longtime R65 long distance rider in Seattle.

They prefer you ride in so they can tailor the seat with you sitting on it.  They even have overnight accomodations!
