Title: Upper throttle cable free play (at splitter) 82LS
Post by: lfdelrio on November 13, 2010, 10:33:10 PM
Hi all,
I've been working on slowly restoring my 82 LS and just replaced my throttle cables. Now I know I'll need to set the free play at the carbs to 0.5-1mm followed by synchronizing the carbs. My question is about the free play at the splitter (upper cable) I've looked at the owners, Haynes, and clymer manuals and none mention what it should be. I was hoping you guys could help me out with this.

Cheers,

Luis

If you are measuring the free play at the carbs, the pressure you are using to pull on the outer cables should take up all of the slack in the splitter as well.  ...I think.

I like to have just a t-i-n-y bit of free play at the cable/twist grip junction after all the carb, splitter and cable synchro chores are completed.

You want the same amount of free play at the cable adjuster at the front of the cable splitter, the same as you would at the adjusters at the carbs .
