Title: Bag latches on the Krausers
Post by: darrylri on November 03, 2010, 09:40:31 AM
I have done some searching but haven't found an answer to this here or elsewhere on the internet...  So I guess you guys are holding out on me.

:)

My Free Bike came with a set of well worn Krauser bags that, none-the-less are structurally ok.  The problem they have is that the latches don't any more.  I drilled out the rivets holding one of the latches to a bag and removed it to see if there was something I could do to repair it.  But I haven't actually found a way to take the latch apart, much less understand what needs fixing.

Does anyone have a method for taking them apart?

Darryl,

Have you checked the Airhead LIST Archives to do a search?  I vaguely recall this subject coming up a while back which may be of some help.

I replaced my Krausers with GIVI's after making a torpedo run on a Buick parked at an intersection with my RH pannier bag (I missed and the Buick got away).  Givi is still in business while Krauser.....

The Givi Nylon Universal plate will bolt on the Krauser rack.

Most people that insist on still using their Krausers have a strap of some sort that runs from the bottom of the rack around the outside of the bag to the top of the rack.  This keeps the bag not only closed but attached to the bike preventing premature deployment of the bag at speed.

Note -- By "strap" I do not mean "bungee".
