I have two BMW projects going right now, the most important being an 1983 R65 for my wife. I got the bike on the cheap and it's mostly all there. The bike came from a guy that likes to rebuild carburaters at 4 in the morning and has a shack behind his house that smells alot like cat urine and bleach. Anyway, let's just say it has some creative modifications. What I'm working on now is making some sort of sense out of the electrical system. My question is three fold: How do I wire up the turn signal flasher correctly and whats the quickest way to determine if the one I located it functioning? Assuming I strike out, where can I order one of these specific items? Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.

Erik, re the wiring. If I were you I would get a wiring diagram and an ohmmeter and start checking the wiring (the original wiring is colour coded but if some has been replaced who knows). If you look at the wiring diagram and determine where the wiring leads to you should be able to check the continuity with an ohmmeter. Some here may have a wiring diagram they can send you or you could go to a Clymer or BMW manual. I have a diagram but it is for my '79 and the wiring may be different for your bike.

Erik - here is a link to your wiring diagram (in color).
I suggest you copy it to your computer's hard drive, and perhaps print it out for easy reference

Solid advice Crossrodes, and Rob, you may have just saved my sanity. Thank you so much. Becoming a member of this forum was a great decision. I hope you two are exemplary of the other people that I will find here.
