Title: tire recommendation for gravel roads ?
Post by: interiorak on October 09, 2010, 03:12:27 AM
I'm currently running metzlers … that seem to do fine around town . . . slush, wet or dry.  I’m not wild about their traction (go or stop) in gravel.  Once was enough . . . I won’t do the Dalton Hiway on them again.  Can anybody recommend a tire best in gravel and ok on asphalt.  I’d like to ride the R65 more often next season . . .  read that ride off pavement more often.  I use TKCs on the 1100gs and am willing to trade the short life for their excellent performance on gravel roads here in AK.  Not sure where to start with the R65.

Or just ride on asphalt  :)

I think that one of the members here used Kenda 270 and/or 272 tires on his R65 for riding dirts roads/trails - but there were clearance issues around the rear plastic fender.

That was me... well, it was my father-in-law when it was his and he "scrambler-ized" it. He ran the aforementioned Kenda 270s. The rear was too wide and chewed up the rear fender.  I personally didn't like them too much... very unstable feeling... so when the rear was worn out, I went back to street tires.

But here is a pic or two with the Kendas:
