Hello!
I hope you had a fun & safe riding season.
I dropped my 90% complete R65 at a shop right before July 4th. I had too many projects going on. I lost my patience trying to troubleshoot some minor electrical squawks like press starter and zippo & no lo beam.
Besides that, I am not a BMW mechanic and neither was my friend who helped me reassemble motor w/new rings, gaskets, and valve job. I was uncertain if we got all the needle valves in & noticed we'd reversed the jugs.
In short, my gut level feeling was to take it to a professional airhead shop to let them check our work before starting her up for first time.
I had my K75s to ride & wasn't in a hurry but was beginning to get impatient but a riding friend encouraged me to sit tight.
The R65 is running after the mechanic discovered we put the new rings on in the incorrect sequence. there was a minor oil leak but was d
Upe to my not installing oil filter with correct sequence of gaskets.
I hope to have it home next week and anticipate bringing a wheelbarrow filled with cash to pay for her but I am looking forward to a hopefully mechanically sound & nicely restored R65.
I rode my first airhead a couple of weeks ago, a R90 and loved the sound & feel of it!
I plan to post pictures when I bring her home!
