Title: Krauser Pannier help R65
Post by: SquareWire on September 13, 2010, 10:58:02 AM
Dear R65 owners,

Can I have some advice on buying a Krauser pannier set please?
This is the one I'm after:
cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280560700121&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT  (sorry, I'm not able to make any hotlinks because of my recent registration)

According to the description it was taken off from the seller's BMW R80 but I was wondering if I could install it on my R65.  Unfortunately I can't see its mounting points from the picture so I've no idea.
I'd appreciate any help  ;)

Oh and by the way congrats for this site, it is indeed a very useful place to be if you're a R65 owner  :)

I think you need a specific r65 set as the frames are differant the r80  has a longer wheelbase perhaps someone else will chip in.
Welcome to the site let us know where in the world you are and post some piccy,s of your ride.

Thanks chaps, it seems I have to find another one then.

I'll post some pictures and further information about me and my bike later on.

Thanks again.

The bags themselves, should work, but the mounts for the R65/R45 are different from the R80/R100 mounts as far as the lower front "arms" that would bolt on down by the passenger/pillion footpeg area.  On the R80/100, these are a bit further/longer reach and are horizontal, whereas on the R45/54 these are a bit closer in and vertical.   If one was very handy with a welder & hacksaw you could probably adapt one to fit the other, though repainting would be required.

Usually easier to just wait for the proper mounts.

Also, I *think* that the Krauser bags will fit the OEM BMW mounting frames with an adapter, but am not sure.
