Post by: cobra407 on September 09, 2010, 03:07:51 PM
Im thinking about end mirrors for my r65ls. are the handlebars hollow? do i just cut the ends of the grips? do they install inside or clip on to the outside of the bars? thanks peter

The Handlebars are hollow tube usualy the end mirrors fit into the inside of the tube and expand to grip, you would have to cut or drill the end of the rubber grip for that thought.

I had bar end mirrors on my LS for many years. There are various qualities available.
Some come with very flimsy expansion nuts that fit inside the handlebars.
I found a very good solid rubber 'rawlnut' that worked beatifully. Ask at your local nuts and bolts supplier.
If they don't have the rubber ones a regular 'dynabolt' type expansion anchor will work also.

The bar end mirrors suited the LS but they are vulnerable and I broke a few over the years.

My end mirrors go inside the bars. They tighten with an allen key that operates a wedge inside the bars.
It's dark outside otherwise I'd take a photo to show you, maybe tomorrow if I remember.

i did a quick google and was amazed at the variety available.
Some go into the end of the bar, some clamp onto the outside of bar end weights.

I found this website http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-bar-end-mirrors/
Whilst I didn't read it you can see the mirrors off the bike and the mechanism for tightening the mirror.

Got a set on my LS, they work well and give a better view around your arms.

I liked mine, for the increased view, back in the eighties.  They were Alberts, and I was constantly having to play with them to keep them in place, it seemed.
I don't know if any of the contemporary brands are better.

I quit using them when I installed a set of heated grips, and I cut holes in the ends of the heated grips, and there were the wires, right at the end of the grip. :(

Can't use Hippo Hands with them, either.
