The existing grip & cam gears were stripped. I have an extra grip & cam from my K75 but I don't think they're compatible. I had it working okay but now when I put it in per the Clymer book, lining up the notch in cam with notch in grip and install, the gears are stripping.
Anyone have any experience in this area?

I replaced the tube and cam/chain on my '81 about 9 years ago .
The replacement cam/chain part has been changed, the hole where the top goes into, is larger, so now you need to get the 'upgraded' top cover as well or the gear teeth don't mesh at all .
This may be the same thing that's happening with your K series parts .
I checked the K75 part numbers and they are different than the R65 part numbers, so they probably aren't compatible .

Thanks, Bob.
Ordering these parts from Motobins and scheduled an appointment to drop her off next week to a reputable Airhead shop in South West MN called Justin Cycle - going to let them get her running, set the carbs and just do all the fine tuning.
Everything is upgraded and clean - new everything! Made some friends in the process - what could be better than this?
Thanks for all your help to you Bob and everyone else from this forum.
I'll post a picture soon. She will turn heads for sure and hopefully run like a top!

Good to hear that another one of these 'beasts' is getting back on the road again .
