My first thought would be to check the switch to see if it is working .
The first generation bikes had a buzzer for the turn signals, the empty socket may be for it .

Does the relay click at the same rate, when the turn signal is selected to the right as it does when selected to the left, or does it increase in speed ?
Assuming the switch is still good, there is a 6 pin connector that the turn direction circuits go through the right signal wiring is blue with a black spiral stripe .
I think the connector is on the right side of the bike at the front, at least it is on an '81 year bike .
This is where the wires split to go to the front and rear turn signals .
Pull that connector apart and look at the wires and crimped on connectors for security and corrosion, place the leads of a multimeter set to the ohms scale between the pin with the green/yellow wires and the pin that has the blue/black wire on the switch side of the connector .
With the turn signal switch set to the right, you should have continuity, if you don't, switch contact may be bad .
Do the same test between the green/yellow wires and the blue/red wires, with the switch set to the left, you should have continuity .
Both of those fuses go through the ignition switch, just a thought, but could a push on connector have come off of the ignition switch ?

Lou, on another subject I noticed that the speedometer cable is tyrapped to the positive battery cable. I have a mess of wires under the tank and although I have been able to gather some photos from other members I am always second guessing myself. My speedometer cable does seem to move noticeably when turning the handle bars.

Cracked it the problem was a bad connection on the 6 pin connector in the photo its the one at the front of the frame nearest the centre tube (left).Bit of a clean jobs a good one.
