i need to pull my carbs and give them a good cleaning. I'm a little scared of the carb sync thing. it's kinda funny, because my first bike was a '77 r75, and I sync'd it's carbs many times, without issue, once I learned how. But that was a long time ago.
maybe part of the problem is that i've been doing a lot of reading on the subject and it's left me more confused then enlightened. can someone point me to a well written how to (with pictures if possible. yes, I'm one of those people) and maybe go into some of your personal experiences with it.

I used the article on this page:
http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/synchcarbs.htm
There is lots of stuff in there, so besides reading it, I printed it out and highlighted the actual steps in the procedure and numbered them. I fooled around with shorting the spark plugs, but I have a home made manometer so used it for balancing the idle and just off idle settings. Now I just do it by ear, I'm getting lazy! I haven't messed with mine for several years now.
Good luck,

that's one of the guides that scared me!
the suggestion of highlighting the pertinent parts sounds like a smart idea.
please tell me more about syncin' by ear. I too am lazy.

I man although I have not yet sync the carbs its something I will be attempting next weekend. Last month I overhauled the carbs and the most difficult part was removing the tops one of which had worn out and damaged screw heads. A little drilling, screw extractor and valve grinding paste solved the problem. New screws can be found at your local ACE hdware.
