Title: Centerstand plug
Post by: Doc_Qanai on May 10, 2010, 01:35:48 PM: The part fiche shows plugs in the ends of the centerstand, but it does not show a part number. Does anyone know a part number for them or have a spare one lying around that they would be willing to part with?

I believe the part number for the rubber caps to be:
46 52 1 236 522.

Thanks. That’s it. While the diagragm for the R65 on the parts microfiche shows the part, it doesn’t number it. It is, however, listed below with the part numbers at #14. Cross-checking the 46-52-1-236-522 part number with the R80ST shows it to be exactly the same part as the #14 (which, as I said, is unnumbered in the R65 diagragm). I’ve made a note of it and put it on the list of parts to be ordered.

Now while we're on the subject of centerstands...can someone tell me where and how the cenetrstand bumper is attached? I can't seem to find an attachmnent point for the bumper and my R65 has never had one that I know of. Help?

My bike was 99.9% original when I got it and there was no bumper. I'm not sure they ever had a one at least on the early model. May be the rubber end stop which contacts the frame on one side was meant to be the bumper. I've glued an additional piece of rubber to the frame rail and it still manages to clonk when I take the bike off the stand.

The earlier models (like mine) didnt have two crossovers this may have been a design oversight when they modified the exaust

You know that makes a lot of sense. For the life of me I can't find a frame tab location to place a rubber bumper from keeping the stand off the exhaust crossover. I don't want it beating on that pipe, especially when the stand is released wiith all the return spring pressure.

My '84 LS has a little tab that takes a rubber bump stop on the left side of the frame, just as the lower tube curves round. A bump stop pushes into this tab. I bought the stops from Motorworks in the UK. The stand no longer clangs against the cross over if I let it up slowly, but if I let if fly up then it compresses the rubber enough to still make a clang.

I'll have another look this weekend. My new SS headers have arrived and I'll be replacing the failed re-chromed ones that bubbled and blistered during the first start-up. I don't remember seeing anything down there on the 81 but i'll have another opportunity while I'm on my back flopping around like a fish out of water re-doing the exhaust..again. Thanks Paul.
