Title: Cruise Control
Post by: razz2234 on April 30, 2010, 07:58:10 AM
Can anyone recommend a cruise control that will fit a 81 R65. I've seen a few...J C Whitney has some but I'm not sure if it would work on the bike.
Would prefer something made of metal and not plastic but I won't be picky if there's something out there that will work well. I currently use a rocker on the throttle but wouldn't mind getting something that will give my right hand a rest.
Appreciate any comments
Thanks
Bill

There should be a drilled and tapped hole on the bottom of the throttle housing, it may still have a plastic plug covering it up .

There is an OEM BMW thumbscrew, and spring assembly, that threads into the hole, and you can vary the friction on the throttle .

It's item number 26 .

Item Number 26 is used to hold a specific rpm while balancing carb cables. It also can serve as a "cruise control" by simply snugging the screw enough to prevent the throttle twist grip from closing. I use mine all the time but do rememeber to manually close the throttle!
